1. What message does the song communicate?
It touches on our former lives where we lived in darkness and avoided exposure. The Old Testament prophets spoke of a new covenant, what Jesus called “new wine”. He also promised the Holy Spirit who would guide us, existing inside our hearts. We surrender to His will.
Side Note: The song contains a speech surrounding Acts 2:17 at the end, which is not part of this review.
Score: 10/10
2. How much of the lyrics line up with Scripture?
This song agrees with God’s inspired Word.

[Verse 1]
No more hiding in the shadows
No more dimming the light
We’re not waiting for tomorrow
This fire is raging It’s burning inside
This speaks of our previous life, where we hid from the light of God lest we become exposed (John 3:20). The fire represents awakened desire, that we’re spiritually alive (Romans 6:1-11, Romans 7:4-6, Galatians 2:19-20, 2 Timothy 2:11, and 1 Peter 2:24).
[Chorus]
This is that the prophets spoke of
This is the new wine
Holy Spirit moving through us
Glory divine
This is that
The new wine represents the new covenant (Matthew 9:14-17), prophecied in Jeremiah 31:31-34. This includes the prophecied Holy Spirit that Jesus promised (Matthew 3:11, Mark 1:8, Luke 3:16, John 1:33, John 14:16-26, John 15:5-15, John 15:26, and John 16:7) who would come to live inside us (Acts 6:5, Romans 8:9-11, 1 Corinthians 3:16, 1 Corinthians 6:16-19, Galatians 4:6, Ephesians 5:18, and 2 Timothy 1:14).
[Verse 2]
Sons and daughters will prophesy
Receive visions and dreams
Your remnant is rising up
Coming out of the building
And into the streets
This was prophesied in Joel 2:28 and quoted by Peter in Acts 2:17, its meaning explained in Acts 2:14-24.
[Bridge]
He’s moving through us
He’s flowing through us
Oh we can feel His Glory in this place
We can experience the Holy Spirit’s Presence.
He’s moving through us
He’s flowing through us
Repeats lines 1 and 2.
Oh Holy Spirit come and have your way
That is, we surrender to God (Isaiah 64:8, Matthew 10:38, Matthew 11:28-30, Matthew 16:24, Mark 8:34-38, Mark 10:28, Luke 9:23, Luke 14:27, John 15:1-11, Romans 6:13, Romans 12:1-2, Galatians 2:20, Philippians 2:5-8, Hebrews 11:6, James 4:7-10, and 1 Peter 5:6).
Score: 10/10
3. How would an outsider interpret the song?
Unbelievers will walk away thinking that Christians experience the Holy Spirit made evident by Chorus and Bridge. The finer details such as prophecy, new wine, shadow hiding, and the rising remnant are heavily Christianese, not easily understood without deeper research. The artist should receive this critique as a back-handed compliment to their painstaking efforts to accurately represent Biblical concepts esoteric to the uninitiated.
Score: 6/10
4. What does this song glorify?
This song glorifies God through its brief examination of the prophecied Holy Spirit, that He moves through us as we yield to His direction.
Score: 10/10
Closing Comments
Brigitte Donoho’s This is That is a great song for believers. It offers a glimpse of her past, present, and future, that she lived in darkness, came to believe the prophecies concerning the New Covenant, and surrendered to God’s will, bringing God glory. Through this process, the Holy Spirit now resides in her, alongside others who received Christ. Unbelievers will probably walk away with more questions than answers, understanding that Christians have the “Holy Spirit”, a term closely associated with Christianity.
I highly recommend it for corporate worship, especially since songs about the Holy Spirit are rare. Seeker-sensitive churches might want to reconsider.
