Elevation Worship is a church-led band that was created in 2007. They join Bethel Music and Hillsong as the “big three” that has the biggest reach in modern Christian music. They released many albums and EP’s.
They also won nine awards, including two Billboard for Top Christian Artist (2021) and Top Christian Song (Graves into Gardens, 2021), and two GMA Dove awards for Spanish Language Album of the Year (Aleluya (En La Tierra), 2020) and Worship Recorded Song of the Year (The Blessing (Live), 2020).

1. What message does the song communicate?
The morally perfect Christ brought about our redemption through the cross and implied resurrection, as He presently wears the crown of glory. We receive His love, forgiveness, and position as co-heirs. In response, we humbly receive His grace, worshipping at His feet for all eternity.
Score: 10/10
2. How much of the lyrics line up with Scripture?
The entire song is Biblical.
[Verse 1]
Lines 1-3: Shame was nailed to the cross (Colossians 2:14).
Line 4: Jesus is without sin (Isaiah 53:9, Matthew 27:24, John 19:4, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Hebrews 4:15, 1 Peter 1:18-19, 1 Peter 2:21-23, and 1 John 3:5).
Line 5: Apart from Christ’s sacrifice, there is no forgiveness of lawbreaking (Hebrews 9:22). Through it, we receive His undeserved favor (Genesis 15:6, Exodus 33:19, Psalm 32:1-2, Romans 3:21-24, Romans 4:3-8, Romans 5:1-2, Romans 5:6-8, Romans 5:15-21, Romans 6:14, Romans 8:1-4, Romans 9:14-16, Romans 11:5-6, Galatians 2:21, Galatians 3:6, Galatians 5:4, Ephesians 1:7, Ephesians 2:4-9, 2 Thessalonians 2:16, Titus 2:11, 1 Timothy 1:15-16, and James 2:23).
[Verse 2]
Line 1: After Jesus died, there was an earthquake, and the veil split (Matthew 27:51 and Mark 15:38). The veil is what separated the outer and inner courts of the temple, where the inner court is the “holy of holies” where God dwelled. Only the high priest could enter, and that was only once a year (Hebrews 9:1-9). This tearing signified that God would no longer dwell within this singular temple. Rather, through the Holy Spirit, He would live in us believers as His living temple (1 Corinthians 3:16).
Line 2: Jesus was forced to wear a shameful crown of thorns (Matthew 27:29, Mark 15:17, and John 19:1-3).
Lines 3 and 4: Mercy triumphs over judgment (James 2:12-13).
Line 5: Repeats Verse 1, line 5.
[Pre-Chorus]
Line 1: The cross proves that Jesus loves us (John 3:16, Romans 5:6-8, and 1 John 4:9-10).
Line 2: We surrounded to His will (Psalm 43:5, Isaiah 64:8, Matthew 10:38, Matthew 11:28-30, Matthew 16:24, Mark 8:34-38, Mark 10:28, Luke 9:23, Luke 14:27, John 15:1-11, Romans 6:13, Romans 12:1-2, Galatians 2:20, Philippians 2:5-8, Hebrews 11:6, James 4:7-10, and 1 Peter 5:6).
Line 3: This is our right as His adopted children (John 1:12-13, John 14:18, Romans 8:14-17, Romans 8:23, Romans 9:1-8, Galatians 3:26, Galatians 4:5-7, Ephesians 1:3-14, Ephesians 2:11-22, Hebrews 9:15, and 1 John 3:1-3).
[Chorus]
Line 1: Jesus presently wears the crown of glory (Hebrews 2:5-9).
Lines 2 and 3: He is worthy of praise (1 Chronicles 16:25, 2 Samuel 22:4, Psalm 96:4-5, Psalm 145:3, and Revelation 4:11).
Line 4: He is holy (Mark 1:24, Luke 4:34, Acts 3:14, Acts 4:27-30, 1 John 2:20, Hebrews 7:26, and Revelation 4:8).
Lines 5-8: Repeats lines 1-4.
[Verse 3]
Lines 1-3: Every knee will bow and confess Christ as Lord (Isaiah 45:43, Romans 14:11, and Philippians 2:10-11).
Line 4: See Verse 1, line 5.
Line 5: Repeats Verse 1, line 5.
[Verse 4]
Lines 1 and 2: Elevation Worship will see Jesus’ face (Revelation 22:4).
Line 3: Elevation Worship, along with the multitude, will fall on their faces before Christ’s throne (Revelation 7:9-11).
Line 4: Elevation Worship is co-heir with Christ (Romans 8:17) as part of the final resurrection (Luke 20:34-38, Acts 24:15-16, Romans 6:1-5, Romans 8:11-13, 1 Corinthians 15:20-26, 1 Corinthians 15:50-56, 2 Corinthians 4:13-14, and 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18).
Lines 5 and 6: Essentially repeats Verse 1, line 5.
Side Note: The audio contains a reference to Casper the friendly ghost after line 6.
Score: 10/10
3. How would an outsider interpret the song?
Those outside of Christianity will conclude that Christians worship Jesus because He died for them. They will continue to worship after they die. It helps greatly that the lyrics are written in everyday language and explicitly mentions Jesus and the cross.
Score: 10/10
4. What does this song glorify?
It glorifies Jesus as the One who saved us from eternal damnation by taking the penalty we deserve, and that we will worship Him forever.
Score: 10/10
Closing Comments
Elevation Worship’s Grace So Glorious is great. Christ’s crucifixion and hinted resurrection free us from the consequences of our lawbreaking, allowing us to freely surrender to and worship Him for all eternity, bringing Him glory. Unbelievers should easily interpret similarly.
I highly recommend this song for corporate worship.
Final Score: 10/10
