1. What message does the song communicate?

This song primarily focuses on the “end times” events in the book of Revelation, though it borrows other apocalyptic elements from the Gospels.  In short, Jesus will triumphantly return to earth, slaughter those who aren’t His children, and their fate will be the eternal Lake of Fire.  Hiding and cursing God are not effective strategies to combat our Lord and Savior.

Score: 10/10

2. How much of the lyrics line up with Scripture?

All of the lyrics quote from or borrow from Scripture.

[Verse 1]

Lines 1 and 2: Essentially quotes from bits of Revelation 16:8-9.

Line 3: That is, Satan (John 8:44).

Lines 4 and 5: References the time period from Revelation 16:8-9 and the White Throne judgment in Revelation 20:11-15

Line 6: By then it will be too late to repent.

[Chorus]

Line 1: That is, the last book of the Holy Bible.

Line 2: Most likely because Jesus said He is coming “soon” (Revelation 22:12).

Lines 3-5: That is, the second coming of Christ (Matthew 24:43, Acts 1:9-11, 1 Corinthians 11:26, 1 Thessalonians 5:2-4, 2 Peter 3:10, Revelation 16:15, and Revelation 19:11-16).

[Verse 2]

Line 1: References 1/3 of humanity wiped out, in part, by brimstone (Revelation 9:18).

Line 2: This is the better option over causing children to stumble (Matthew 18:6, Mark 9:42, and Luke 17:2).

Line 3: Occurs during the seventh trumpet sound (Revelation 11:15-19).

Lines 4-6: They vainly try to hide from Christ in caves (Revelation 6:15-17).  Also see Verse 1, lines 4 and 5.

[Verse 3]

Line 1: As stated in Matthew 24:27.

Line 2: There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth (Matthew 8:11-12, Matthew 22:13, Matthew 25:30, and Luke 13:28).

Lines 3 and 4: That is the Lake of Fire (Matthew 5:30, Matthew 25:31-46, Mark 9:43-48, John 3:16-21, Romans 6:23, Revelation 19:20, Revelation 20:14-15, and Revelation 21:8).

Lines 5 and 6: As stated by Jesus in Matthew 24:29 and Mark 13:25.

Lines 7 and 8: A more explicit reference to the seventh trumpet (Revelation 11:15-19).

[Outro]

Lines 1 and 2: As stated in Revelation 1:1.

Lines 3 and 4: See commentary on Chorus, lines 2-5.

Score: 10/10

3. How would an outsider interpret the song?

Turn or burn.

Score: 10/10

4. What does this song glorify?

If glorifies Jesus as the victor over wicked, degenerate people who refuse to repent and put their trust in Him.

Score: 10/10

Closing Comments

John Rich’s Revelation is a toe-tapper.  It brings joyous energy in celebration of Jesus’ return to earth where he will judge unrepentant wicked sinners with brimstone, earthquakes, and eventually, burning in the unquenchable Lake of Fire.  These bring Him glory.  Unbelievers will hear this message loud and clear, though will likely interpret this as “repent or perish”.

This song is suitable for corporate worship.

Final Score: 10/10
