- Is light that defeats darkness envelopes Jobe
- Fights on behalf of Jobe
- Redeems

Score: 10/10
2. How much of the lyrics line up with Scripture?
All of it does.
[Verse 1]
Lines 1-6: God is with Jobe regardless of what she faces (Deuteronomy 31:6-8, Joshua 1:5-9, Psalm 46:1, Psalm 139:7-10, Isaiah 41:10, Jeremiah 23:23-24, Zephaniah 3:17, Matthew 6:25-34, Matthew 28:20, John 14:16-17, Hebrews 13:5, Romans 8:38-39, and Revelation 3:20). She makes the same point with references to Daniel 3:1-30 and Psalm 23:4.
[Chorus]
Lines 1: See Verse 1, line 2.
Line 2: Repeats line 1.
Line 3: God guides Jobe (Psalm 32:8, Psalm 37:23-24, Psalm 73:23-24, Psalm 119:105, Isaiah 30:21, Isaiah 48:17, Isaiah 58:11, Proverbs 3:5-6, Proverbs 16:9, Proverbs 20:24, Psalm 25:4-9, Psalm 25:9-10, Luke 1:78-79, John 14:26, John 16:13, and Romans 8:14).
Line 4: God will not abandon Jobe (Deuteronomy 31:6, Joshua 1:8-9, 1 Chronicles 28:20, Psalm 118:6, Lamentations 3:22-23, and Hebrews 13:5-6).
Lines 5-8: Repeats lines 1-4.
[Verse 2]
Lines 1-4: God’s light drives out the darkness that surrounds Jobe (Psalm 107:10-16, Luke 1:79, John 1:1-13, John 12:46, Ephesians 5:8, Colossians 1:13, and 1 Peter 2:9) while she trusts in Him (1 Corinthians 16:13, 2 Corinthians 1:24, Ephesians 6:11, Philippians 1:27, Philippians 4:1, Colossians 1:23, 2 Thessalonians 2:15, Hebrews 3:6, Hebrews 3:14, Hebrews 4:14, Hebrews 6:11, Hebrews 10:23, and 1 Peter 5:9).
Line 5: References Exodus 14:14, where God commanded the Israelite people to keep silent while God fights their enemies, the Egyptians.
Side Note: We cannot reasonably expect God to always rescue us from our enemies if we merely praise and worship God. According to Matthew 10:22, we will be a hated people on account of Jesus. We should expect persecution from outsiders (Matthew 10:16-25).
Line 6: Essentially repeats Verse 1, line 6.
[Bridge]
Line 1: As summarized in Psalm 33:8-9.
Line 2: As stated in John 3:16, Romans 5:6-8, 1 Corinthians 6:20, Hebrews 5:9, Hebrews 9:28, 1 Peter 1:18-19, 1 John 1:9, and 1 John 2:2.
Line 3: Jobe belongs to Him (Romans 8:9, 1 Corinthians 3:18-23, and Ephesians 1:5).
Lines 4-12: Repeats lines 1-3.
[Verse 3]
Line 1: He is the source of Jobe’s power (Nehemiah 8:10, Psalm 22:19, Psalm 28:7-8, Psalm 46:1, Psalm 118:14, Isaiah 12:2, Isaiah 33:2, Isaiah 40:29-31, Habakkuk 3:19, 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, Ephesians 3:16, Ephesians 6:10, and Philippians 4:13).
Lines 2 and 3: He is Jobe’s defense (Ruth 2:12, 2 Samuel 22:3-4, Psalm 3:3, Psalm 5:11, Psalm 18:30, Psalm 27:1, Psalm 32:7, Psalm 34:22, Psalm 41:2, Psalm 46:1, Psalm 57:1, Psalm 59:1, Psalm 61:3, Psalm 91:1-16, Psalm 118:8, Psalm 121:7-8, Psalm 138:7, Proverbs 18:10, Proverbs 30:5, Nahum 1:7, 2 Thessalonians 3:3, and 1 John 5:18).
Lines 4 and 5: He is faithful (Numbers 23:19, Deuteronomy 7:9, Psalm 33:4, Psalm 91:4, Psalms 119:90, Lamentations 3:22-23, 1 Corinthians 1:9, 1 Corinthians 10:13, 2 Thessalonians 3:3, 2 Timothy 2:13, Hebrews 10:23, 2 Peter 3:9, and 1 John 1:9).
Line 6: He heals (Matthew 8:3, Matthew 9:29-30, Matthew 20:34, Mark 1:41-42, Mark 8:22-25, Luke 5:13, Luke 7:14-15, and Luke 22:51).
Score: 10/10
3. How would an outsider interpret the song?
Verse 2 makes it clear that the Lord is the subject of Jobe’s praise. Unbelievers will probably recognize “standing in the fire” and “through the valley of the shadow” as Christian catchphrases. The entire song is written in everyday language. They will likely conclude that Jobe is telling us how awesome the Lord is.
Score: 10/10
4. What does this song glorify?
It glorifies the Lord as the One who rescues, redeems, guides, and is present with those who are His.
Score: 10/10
Closing Comments
Kari Jobe’s I Am Not Alone is excellent. It’s a list of acts and attributes of God, including His faithfulness, healing, presence, and redemption. In response, Jobe entrusts God with her life. These bring Him glory. Unbelievers should easily respond similarly.
I highly recommend this song for corporate worship.
Final Score: 10/10
