David Whitcroft is a songwriter and personal friend who has a heart for Bible-centered lyrics, written for the local church.  His songs are specifically designed to prepare our hearts for authentic worship.  He collaborates with other artists from Christian events in Northern Ireland to co-write and produce his songs.

He released one album: Sunshine for Rainy Days.

1. What message does the song communicate?

Creation awaits, like a child waiting to be born, for the Savior Jesus to make His triumphant return. While we wait patiently, we praise Him at all times, recognizing that we gained from serving him. All history is His story, pointing to Jesus and Christ crucified and yielding to His ways. He comes and goes as He pleases.

Score: 10/10

2. How much of the lyrics line up with Scripture?

Would I review any of my friend’s work that isn’t Biblical?  Of course I would!  This isn’t one of them.

Lyrics posted with permission.*

[Verse 1]

If creation is longing for freedom and glory
Every winter that passes each forest that burns

As indicated by Romans 8:22-23.

There’s a cry from it’s heart ‘Come Lord Jesus, return’

References Jesus’ second coming (Matthew 24:43, Acts 1:9-11, 1 Corinthians 11:26, 1 Thessalonians 5:2-4, 2 Peter 3:10, Revelation 16:15, and Revelation 19:11-16).

Every season a temple of praise

It is God’s will that we unceasingly praise Him (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).

[Verse 2]

If all history is marked by the sign of the cross

This includes the Old Testament, which prophecied Jesus numerous times.

Then each year that I give You is gain and not loss

This is a rephrasing of Philippians 3:8-10.

For in time all our empires just melt like the frost

This is so, because God establishes governments (Romans 13:1).

May our days be a temple of praise

A prayerful version of Verse 1, line 4.

[Chorus 1]

Oh Ancient of Days

This title comes from Daniel 7:13.

You have chosen Your moments

One example of this is Romans 9:18, where God chooses to whom He shows mercy.

All our feasting and mourning
our love work and play
So when time is rolled up
on that great Judgment Day
May my days be a temple of praise

When God judges the world, our works will be tested with fire (1 Corinthians 3:13-15).

[Verse 3]

I can rise to Your song on the wings of the morning
Walk with your Spirit in the cool of the day
I can pray with a child as the sun bows his head
May my days be a temple of praise

These are examples of how KDMusic praises God, borrowed from Psalm 139:9-10, Genesis 3:8, and Deuteronomy 6:6-8 (respectively).

[Chorus 1]

Oh Ancient of Days
You have chosen Your moments
All our feasting and mourning
our love work and play
So when time is rolled up
on that great Judgment Day
May my days be a temple of praise

Repeated Chorus 1 section.

Side Note: I don’t normally include completely repeated Chorus sections; However, since there are two Chorus’, I thought it best to include this a second time to prevent confusion.

[Chorus 2]

O Lord now I see that my days
are all numbered

As stated in Psalm 139:16.

All the feasting and mourning
the love work & play

Repeats Chorus, lines 3 and 4.

So when I lay down my life
at Your feet for a crown

KDMusic surrenders to God (Psalm 43:5, Isaiah 64:8, Matthew 10:38, Matthew 11:28-30, Matthew 16:24, Mark 8:34-38, Mark 10:28, Luke 9:23, Luke 14:27, John 15:1-11, Romans 6:13, Romans 12:1-2, Galatians 2:20, Philippians 2:5-8, Hebrews 11:6, James 4:7-10, and 1 Peter 5:6).

While the crown of life isn’t the only reason why we surrender (see Verse 2, line 2), it is mentioned in James 1:12 as a reward.

May eternity ring with Your praise

Essentially repeats Chorus (1), line 7.

May eternity ring with Your praise

Repeats line 7.

May my days be a temple of praise.

Repeats Chorus (1), line 7.

Score: 10/10

3. How would an outsider interpret the song?

Unbelievers will know it’s Christian because it explicitly uses the name of Jesus, speaks of the cross, and that Christians desire to see Him come back. Despite this song’s heavy usage of poetry, unbelievers should be able to piece together KDMusic’s main points that I addressed in section 1.

Score: 10/10

4. What does this song glorify?

It glorifies Jesus as the One worth living for, to whom we yield, trust, and adore with our praise and worship.

Score: 10/10

Closing Comments

KDMusic’s May My Days Be A Temple of Praise is praiseworthy. It calls us to lay down our lives for Jesus, whom we pay homage and await His second coming. Serving Him is not a waste of time; precious to those who know Him. God does as He pleases, including saving us through Jesus’ death on the cross. These glorify Christ. Those who don’t know Him should be able to comprehend these points with relatively little difficulty.

I highly recommend this song for corporate worship.
