1. What message does the song communicate?

LFI expresses their longings, including:

  • Freedom from struggles and fears that prevents total physical response in worship
  • Uniformity in expressing praise, whether alone or with others
  • Living a life on fire for the Lord, giving way to His will and obeying His every command

LFI believes God is worthy of their praise because He is their Savior.

Side Note: To those sensitive to massive repetition, this song contains a lot of it within Chorus.

Score: 10/10

2. How much of the lyrics line up with Scripture?

The lyrics agree with God’s inspired Word.

[Verse 1]

Lines 1 and 2: LFI desires to cast their anxieties onto God (Psalm 37:5, Psalm 55:22, Matthew 11:28-30, Philippians 4:6, and 1 Peter 5:7).

Lines 3 and 4: Combining this with Verse 2, lines 1-4, LFI wishes to be consistent in worship: standing while lifting hands in praise whether alone or corporately.

[Verse 2]

Lines 1-4: LFI alludes to fear, that others around will judge how they worship.  This prevents them from praising God as they want to, forgetting that Romans 14:4 teaches us not to judge one another.  This includes style of worship.

Side Note: LFI is not saying that it’s wrong to worship while sitting.  They speak to those who know that they should stand and express themselves when they sit idly.

Line 5: “More” on this at the end of Chorus.

Lines 6 and 7: Essentially repeats line 5.

[Chorus]

Lines 1 and 2: LFI wants to love God with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength (Deuteronomy 6:5, Deuteronomy 10:12, Matthew 22:37, Mark 12:29-30, and Luke 10:27).  Offering their best worship is one way LFI demonstrates this aim.

Lines 3-6: LFI yearns to obey His every command, authentically following Jesus by serving Him (Matthew 25:34-40, John 14:15, John 14:21-24, John 15:10-14, 1 Peter 1:14-15, 1 John 2:3-5, 1 John 4:19-20, 1 John 5:2-3, and 2 John 1:6).

Lines 7-12: While God deserves obedience and praise, He also deserves something more, which LFI explains later during Chorus’ next lines.

Lines 13-15: Quotes from the chorus of Judson W. Van DeVenter’s hymn All to Jesus I surrender.  LFI concludes that the “more” they yearn to offer God is complete and total surrender to Him as their Lord and Savior (Isaiah 64:8, Matthew 10:38, Matthew 11:28-30, Matthew 16:24, Mark 8:34-38, Mark 10:28, Luke 9:23, Luke 14:27, John 15:1-11, Romans 6:13, Romans 12:1-2, Galatians 2:20, Philippians 2:5-8, Hebrews 11:6, James 4:7-10, and 1 Peter 5:6).

Score: 10/10

3. How would an outsider interpret the song?

LFI uses everyday language to express to unbelievers their many wants.  Those who are not yet Christians should easily understand what LFI wants.  Terms such as “Lord” and “Savior” point them towards a Christian interpretation.

Score: 10/10

4. What does this song glorify?

It glorifies God that LFI wishes to completely yield to God’s will, praising Him through physical expression.

Score: 10/10

Closing Comments

Lawrence Flowers & Intercession’s More challenges us, awakening within our hearts desire to worship and obey God in total surrender.  This glorifies God.  Unbelievers should have little to no problem interpreting similarly.

I’m on the fence in terms of corporate worship.  While it sounds more like a personal confession to commiting one’s life to God than to proclaim to God His value and worth, I’m not opposed to corporate profession.

Final Score: 10/10
