Missions singer and songwriter Lindy Conant-Cofer is a Contemporary Christian artist, joined by her Circuit Riders.  Living up to their name, these riders minister the Gospel to others through outreaches and music.  Cofer helped start this group in 2012 after her leadership role at YWAM.  Together, they released Every Nation in 2016 and Driven by Love in 2019.

NOTE: Throughout this review, I’ll refer to “Lindy & The Circuit Riders” as LCR.

1. What message does the song communicate?

LCR’s song is their continual relationship with God, ready and willing to be sent by God to do His will.  Filled with the Holy Spirit, the love of God compels LCR to show the same love to others, teaching Christ and providing spiritual healing.  In this, they shine His light to dark places.  They will not cease until all bow the knee to Jesus.

Score: 10/10

2. How much of the lyrics line up with Scripture?

[Verse 1]

Lines 1 and 2: An anthem is a song of praise.  LCR’s song is a personal relationship with God (Philippians 3:8).

Line 3 and 4: LCR has the same attitude as Isaiah, ready and willing to be sent by God (Isaiah 6:8).

[Chorus]

Lines 1-4: The same love that compelled the Father to send Christ for us (John 3:16, Romans 5:6-8, and 1 John 3:16) also moves LCR to action (1 John 3:18).  They also show love to God by obeying His commandment (John 14:15), which includes making disciples (Matthew 28:18-20).

Line 5: LCR carries Christ’s love by showing it to others, loving their neighbors as themselves (Leviticus 19:18, Matthew 22:37-40, Mark 12:31, Luke 10:27-37, Romans 13:9, Galatians 5:14, James 2:8).

Line 6: This little light of LCR’s.  They’re gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine (Matthew 5:14-16, Ephesians 5:8, 1 Peter 2:9, 1 John 1:5-7, and 1 John 2:7-11).

Lines 7 and 8: LCR won’t stop until every knee bows and confesses Jesus as Lord (Philippians 2:10-11).

[Verse 2]

Line 1: LCR fixes their eyes on Jesus (Hebrews 12:2).

Line 2: See Chorus, lines 3 and 4.

Lines 3-5: Rewords the essence of John 20:21, combined with a slight call to Casper the friendly ghost.

[Spontaneous (1)]

Line 1: A more pronounced Casper reference.

Line 2: There’s just something about that name!

Lines 3 and 4: That is, the Holy Spirit indwelt within us (Acts 6:5, Romans 8:9-11, 1 Corinthians 3:16, 1 Corinthians 6:16-19, Galatians 4:6, Ephesians 5:18, and 2 Timothy 1:14).

[Bridge]

Lines 1 and 2: That is, let us be an example such that the world will see our good deeds and glorify God (Matthew 5:16).

Lines 3 and 4: That is, let us practice our Christianity through action and truth (1 John 3:18).  By telling others about Jesus, the world can run to Him who gives them spiritual rest for their weary souls (Matthew 11:28-30).

Lines 5-8: That is, the great commission.  See Chorus, lines 3 and 4.

Lines 9-16: Repeats lines 1-8, with another Casper reference.

[Spontaneous (2)]

Lines 1-4: Repackages Isaiah 6:8 as Christ sending LCR.

[Outro]

Lines 1 and 2: That is, LCR asks their audience to shout in worship to Jesus (Psalm 35:27, Psalm 47:1, Psalm 66:1-2, and Psalm 98:4).

Score: 10/10

3. How would an outsider interpret the song?

Much of this song will be easy for unbelievers to interpret, coming to similar conclusions to what I stated in section 1.  They may not know what the “great commission” is, but should understand from other lines that Christians are sent by God to tell others about Christ.

Score: 9/10

4. What does this song glorify?

It glorifies God in that God is the most important thing to LCR, ready and willing to do what He says.

Score: 10/10

Closing Comments

Lindy & The Circuit Riders’ Driven By Love is a great song.  God is LCR’s top priority; their relationship with God as a melody.  Their attitude is “Here am I, send me” to preach the Gospel to those who do not know Christ, providing spiritual healing to dark places, bringing Him glory.  Unbelievers should have little difficulty concluding this, perhaps not understanding the phrase “great commission”.

I highly recommend this song for corporate worship.

Final Score: 9.5/10
