1. What message does the song communicate?
This song primarily calls us to hear Christ’s voice, confess Him Lord, believe that He rose from the dead, and follow Him. Jesus is God, knows our hearts, created us, and exists eternally.
Side Note: To those who don’t prefer massive repetition, Bridge repeats “Just beautiful” 15 times, with a small reprieve towards the end of this section.
Score: 10/10
2. How much of the lyrics line up with Scripture?
These lyrics completely line up with Scripture.

[Verse 1]
Hear His voice He’s the one who loves you most
Hear The Word it will guide and give you hope
He’s the resurrected Christ who died to give you life
Don’t you hear Him? Don’t you hear Him?
Reese calls us to follow Jesus, hearing His voice as a shepherd for his sheep (John 10:27 and John 10:11-18). She rhetorically asks if we are listening.
Christ is the Word made flesh (John 1:1 and John 1:14), who rose from the dead, giving us hope of new life (Matthew 28:1-20, Mark 16:1-20, Luke 24:1-12, John 20:1-29, Acts 1:3, Acts 3:15, Acts 4:33, and 1 Corinthians 15:3-8).
[Pre-Chorus (1)]
Jesus sees you as you really are
Jesus not your ordinary love, No
Jesus born to give new life my friend
He knows we are wicked sinners (Psalm 14:1-3, Psalm 53:1-3, Proverbs 21:16, Luke 15:11-24, Romans 3:10, Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23, Ephesians 2:1, Colossians 2:13, and 1 Timothy 5:6), yet, came into this world to pay for our error (John 3:16, Romans 5:6-8, and 1 John 4:9-10). His love is not ordinary as He is love itself (1 john 4:8).
Believe in your heart, confess his name
Though I am tempted to conclude that this line goes against Jeremiah 17:9, it borrows from Romans 10:9-10. This passage better fits the context of this song, that we believe in our hearts that we’re saved.
[Chorus (1)]
Believe in HIM….believe in Him, yeah
See commentary on pre-Chorus, line 4.
Believe in HIM…..believe in Him
Believe in HIM…..ooom
Essentially repeats line 1.
Hear His Voice
Verse 1, line 4 issued as a commandment.
[Verse 2]
Oh, it’s the God who knitted you
In the womb, He gave you life and brought you through
Borrows from the words of King David in Psalm 139:13.
Praise Him Now just think about how this world is full of doubt
Reese invites us to worship Jesus (Matthew 2:11, Matthew 14:33, Matthew 21:9, Matthew 28:8-9, Matthew 28:16-17, Luke 24:50-53, John 12:13, and John 20:28).
Don’t you hear HIM, God Forever?
A continuation of Verse 1, line 4. This line also tells us that Jesus is God (Isaiah 9:6-7, Isaiah 43:10-11, Matthew 1:23, Matthew 9:1-8, Mark 2:1-12, Luke 5:17-26, John 1:1-3, John 1:14, John 5:17-18, John 8:23-25, John 8:28, John 10:30-33, John 14:9, John 20:28-29, Philippians 2:5-6, Colossians 1:16-19, Colossians 2:8-9, Titus 2:13, 1 Timothy 6:14-16, Hebrews 1:10-12, Revelation 1:8, and Revelation 22:13) and eternal (Deuteronomy 33:27, 1 Chronicles 16:34, Job 36:26, Psalm 48:14, Psalm 90:2-4, Psalm 102:12, Psalm 102:26-27, Proverbs 8:23, Isaiah 40:28, Isaiah 41:4, Habakkuk 1:12, John 8:58, John 17:5, Romans 1:20, 1 Corinthians 2:7, Ephesians 1:4, Colossians 1:13-17 , Hebrews 1:11-12, Hebrews 13:8, 1 Peter 1:20, 2 Peter 3:8, Revelation 1:8, Revelation 11:17, and Revelation 22:13).
[Pre-Chorus (2)]
Jesus sees you as you really are
Jesus He is not your ordinary LOVE, No
Jesus born to give new life my friend……….so search your hearts
Believe in your heart, confess his name
Line 3 is the only difference between this and Pre-Chorus (1). Reese invites us to search our hearts. See commentary on Pre-Chorus (1), line 4. We should search God’s heart, not ours (Deuteronomy 4:29, 1 Kings 22:5, 2 Chronicles 30:18-20, Psalm 14:2, Psalm 63:1, Psalm 78:34, Proverbs 8:17, Jeremiah 29:13, Matthew 6:25-34, Matthew 7:7, Luke 11:9, Acts 17:27-28, and Hebrews 11:6).
[Chorus (2)]
Believe in HIM…Just
Believe in HIM…Believe Jesus is your friend, Oh Yeah
Believe in HIm
Hear His voice
Line 1 contains a substantial difference to Chorus (1). Reese calls us to see Jesus as our friend (John 15:14-15).
[Bridge]
Hey, From sea to shining sea
Every mountain, every prairie
Search the universe above
What you see is just beautiful
God’s creation is a reflection of His beauty (Psalm 19:1-6).
From sea to shining sea
Every mountain, every prairie
Search the universe above
What you see is just beautiful
Repeats lines 1-4.
Just beautiful, Just beautiful
Just beautiful, Just beautiful
Just beautiful, Just beautiful
Just beautiful, Just beautiful
Repeats part of line 4.
Just beautiful, I am awestruck
Just beautiful, I am a part of His creation
Reese cannot believe that she’s part of Christ’s handiwork, that He created her (Genesis 1:1, Nehemiah 9:6, Psalm 8:3-8, Psalm 33:6, Psalm 96:5, Proverbs 3:19, Isaiah 37:16, Isaiah 42:5, Isaiah 45:18, Isaiah 66:1-2, John 1:1-3, Ephesians 3:9, Colossians 1:16, and Revelation 4:11).
Just beautiful, Just beautiful
Just beautiful, Just beautiful
Repeats part of line 4.
[Pre Chorus (3)]
Jesus …Jesus, sees you as you really are
Jesus …Jesus, not your ordinary LOVE, NO
Jesus …Jesus, born to give new life my friend
Repeats Pre-Chorus (1), lines 1-3.
Lord Search our hearts, Lord Search our hearts
Reese invites God to do what He already does, namely, searches and judges our hearts (1 Chronicles 28:9, 1 Samuel 16:7, 1 Kings 8:39, Psalm 44:21, Psalm 139:1, Proverbs 16:2, Jeremiah 17:10, and Luke 16:15).
[Chorus (3)]
Believe in HIm Believe in Him, Yes
Believe in HIM You’ve got to believe, You’ve got to believe
Believe in HIm Hear is voice, Hear His voice, Yeah, Yeah
Hear His voice Just Hear His voice
Reese pleads with her audience to believe Jesus and hear Him (see commentary on Verse 1 and Pre-chorus (1), line 4).
Awestruck, I’m a part of HIS creation.
combines parts of Bridge, lines 13 and 14.
God, search our hearts, help us see who we really are.
The first part essentially repeats part of Pre-Chorus (3), line 4. In the second part, God does by disciplining us (John 15:2, Romans 5:3-5, Hebrews 12:4-11, and James 1:2-4).
Score: 10/10
3. How would an outsider interpret the song?
Unbelievers will immediately recognize its Christian in the opening verse, which speaks of the resurrected Christ. Reese makes her plea to them, that they should respond to Jesus’ leading. I can’t think of anything they will misunderstand. Reese’s language is clear.
Score: 10/10
4. What does this song glorify?
It glorifies God when Reese pleads with others to hear and follow Jesus.
Score: 10/10
Closing Comments
Pocahontas Reese’s Hear His Voice is wonderful. She calls both believers and unbelievers alike into a personal relationship with Jesus, hearing His calling to confess Him as Lord and Savior. She believes Jesus is God, rose from the dead, created us, and exists forever. These glorify God. Unbelievers will have little to no trouble interpreting similarly.
This song is inspirational, but not appropriate for corporate worship.
Final Score: 10/10
