1. What message does the song communicate?

Sovereign Grace Music formerly lived a worldly life, leaving them empty and dead inside.  They found Jesus, who gave them mercy, power, rest, and redemption.  He is unique, healer, provider, and majestic.  Sovereign Grace Music forsake their folly and cling to Christ, their most prized and valuable possession.

Side Note: While Bridge repeats “Jesus, You satisfy our souls” six times, those annoyed by massive repetition should remember that Psalm 118:1-29 follows a similar format.

Score: 10/10

2. How much of the lyrics line up with Scripture?

The whole thing is saturated with Scripture.

[Verse 1]

Lines 1 and 2: Sovereign Grace Music feasted upon the world, leaving them unsatisfied (Psalm 34:10, Proverbs 13:25, Isaiah 55:2, Isaiah 65:13-16, Hosea 4:10, and Micah 6:14-16).

3. How would an outsider interpret the song?

Unbelievers will easily see this song is about Jesus.  Sovereign Grace Music explicitly uses His name.  They will also easily conclude that the entire song is about telling Jesus that they were unsatisfied with their life and that He satisfies them.  They use everyday language to describe His many acts and attributes.

Score: 10/10

4. What does this song glorify?

It glorifies Jesus as the One who saves Sovereign Grace Music from their former life of sin into a deep, rich, grace-filled relationship with Himself.  He heals, sustains, redeems, and provides for their needs.

Closing Comments

Sovereign Grace Music’s Christ Our Treasure is delightful.  It reminds us that we used to live, smell, and act as the world did.  We were broken, empty, and unsatisfied.  In Christ, we are new creations, filled with His mercy, grace, life, might, and hope.  He is the author and perfector of our faith.  There is no one like Him.  He is our most valuable treasure.  These acts and attributes glorify Him.  Unbelievers should easily draw similar conclusions.

I highly recommend this song for corporate worship.

Final Score: 10/10
