  • Radical Love (2014)
  • Rise Heart (2015)
  • Awit ng Bayan (2017)
  • For Your Purpose (EP, 2017)
  • Shelter (EP, 2018)
  • In Your Name (EP, 2018)
  • Tribes (2019)
  • Hope Has Come (2019)
  • One Moment (2019)
  • Tahanan (2020)

1. What message does the song communicate?

God is all-knowing, creator of all living things, everlasting, and Victory Worship’s anchor.  He changes their hearts and desires to align with His.  As their children, Victory Worship responds by yielding to God, committed to doing His will, and proclaiming to the masses what He has done for them.

Score: 10/10

2. How much of the lyrics line up with Scripture?

This song is 100% Biblical.

[Verse 1]

Line 1: References Psalm 147:4 and Isaiah 40:26.

Line 2: References Genesis 1:1-26, where God’s Word brings life to the world and creatures within it.

Line 3: That is, God is eternal (Deuteronomy 33:27, 1 Chronicles 16:34, Job 36:26, Psalm 48:14, Psalm 90:2-4, Psalm 102:12, Psalm 102:26-27, Proverbs 8:23, Isaiah 40:28, Isaiah 41:4, Habakkuk 1:12, John 17:5, Romans 1:20, 1 Corinthians 2:7, Ephesians 1:4, Hebrews 1:11-12, 1 Peter 1:20, 2 Peter 3:8, Revelation 1:8, Revelation 11:17, and Revelation 22:13).

Line 4: God is the only foundation that is solid (Deuteronomy 32:4, 1 Samuel 2:2, 2 Samuel 22:47, Psalm 18:31, Psalm 28:1, Psalm 62:2, Psalm 94:22, Psalm 118:22, Isaiah 28:16, Matthew 7:24-27, Matthew 21:42, Acts 4:11, 1 Corinthians 3:10-11, Ephesians 2:20, 2 Timothy 2:19, and 1 Peter 2:6).

[Verse 2]

Lines 1-3: Verse 1, line 2 talked about physical creation.  God betters us by:

  • Guiding us through His Holy Spirit, who lives inside us (Acts 6:5, Romans 8:9-11, 1 Corinthians 3:16, 1 Corinthians 6:16-19, Galatians 4:6, Ephesians 5:18, and 2 Timothy 1:14)
  • Convicts us of sin, righteousness, and judgment (John 16:8)
  • Disciplining us (Hebrews 12:4-11)
  • Taking our anxiety (Matthew 11:28-30)
  • Gives us a new heart (Ezekiel 11:19, Ezekiel 36:26, Jeremiah 31:33, and Hebrews 8:10)
  • Changes our desires (Psalm 51:10, Jeremiah 24:7, Ezekiel 11:19, Ezekiel 36:26, Romans 2:29, Romans 12:2, 2 Corinthians 5:17, and 2 Corinthians 7:10).

It is through Him that we live, move, and have our being (Acts 17:28).

Line 4: Nothing (John 15:5).

[Pre-Chorus]

Line 1: Chorus explains who God says Victory Worship is.

Line 2: Alludes to Jeremiah 29:11.

Lines 3 and 4: God is omniscient (1 Kings 8:39, 1 Chronicles 28:9, Psalm 44:21, Psalm 139:4, Psalm 147:4-5, Isaiah 40:28, Matthew 10:30, John 16:30, John 21:17, Acts 1:24, Hebrews 4:13, and 1 John 3:20).

Lines 5 and 6: Repeats lines 1 and 2.

Lines 7 and 8: That is, personally, relationally.  It is the most important relationship one can possess (Philippians 3:8-10).

[Chorus]

Line 1: That is, an adopted child of God (John 1:12-13, John 14:18, Romans 8:14-17, Romans 8:23, Romans 9:1-8, Galatians 3:26, Galatians 4:5-7, Ephesians 1:3-14, Ephesians 2:11-22, Hebrews 9:15, and 1 John 3:1-3).

Line 2: How does Victory Worship know that God loves them more than others?  Yes, God hated Esau (Malachi 1:3 and Romans 9:13); However, it wasn’t the person Esau He hated, but the sins of Esau’s descendants, the Edomites (read Malachi in context).  I find no Biblical support to say God loves one group of people more than others.

Lines 3 and 4: See commentary on Verse 2, lines 1-3, last bullet.

Line 5: As opposed to another god (Psalm 63:1, Psalm 118:28, Isaiah 25:1, and John 20:28).

Lines 6-8: Repeats lines 2-4.

[Bridge]

Lines 1-4: Victory Worship is committed to total surrender to God (Isaiah 64:8, Matthew 10:38, Matthew 11:28-30, Matthew 16:24, Mark 8:34-38, Mark 10:28, Luke 9:23, Luke 14:27, John 15:1-11, Romans 6:13, Romans 12:1-2, Galatians 2:20, Philippians 2:5-8, Hebrews 11:6, James 4:7-10, and 1 Peter 5:6), including telling others about Him (Matthew 28:18-20).

Lines 5-16: Repeats lines 1-4.

Score: 10/10

3. How would an outsider interpret the song?

Unbelievers will know that Victory Worship speaks of their God based on His named attributes (see section 1) and explicit references to “Lord” and “God”.  Given that Victory Worship states their desire to know God personally, I find it difficult to think outsiders to Christianity will conclude a deity other than our God.  Victory Worship uses everyday language, easing unbeliever interpretation to align with mine.

Score: 10/10

4. What does this song glorify?

It glorifies God by accurately describing who He is and magnifying total surrender to Him.

Score: 10/10

Closing Comments

Victory Worship’s For Your Purpose (Unplugged) is a wonderful song.  It tells us that God has always existed, created all life, and founded Victory Worship’s faith.  In response, Victory Worship surrenders to God, giving Him glory.  Unbelievers should have little to no issue interpreting similarly.

I highly recommend this song for corporate worship.

Final Score: 10/10
